Forum: feature_films Subject: The Good Companions (1933)

British, pre-1946, not renewed in America. So far, so good.

However, the script is based on a play that is based on a novel. Does that make a difference?

When was the play written? If before '23, it shouldn't be a problem. Then again, "I Am Legend" is still under copyright, but "The Last Man on Earth" is PD. Probably depends on whether or not the playright gives a $#1+, eh?

The novel by J.B. Priestley was published in 1929; the play opened in 1931.
